 Date/Time: April 17, 4-5pm Location: Strozier Library Feedback provided to tutee: We moved into debate-style speaking, where I pushed back on every opinion to force her into complex sentences. My tutee worked through debate topics designed to go over the present perfect tense and vocabulary words related to the topic. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that my tutee has a large understanding of grammar and now it's time to introduce her to elaborate professional vocabulary.

Date/Time: April 1, 4:00-5:00 Location: Sweet Shop Cafe Feedback provided to tutee: We worked through minimal vowel pairs like ship/sheep and bit/beat, focusing on the long i sound that doesn't exist in Spanish. I also made sure to give her mouth-position tips.   Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Spanish speakers often cannot hear certain English vowel contrasts at first, since the sounds don't exist in their language. I also learned that pairing the drill with a visual cue helped her physically see the difference.

Date/Time: March 28 Location: tutee house Feedback provided to tutee: Tutee wrote the essay that we had planned in the last session. I answered her questions about transition words and essay writing. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that pre-planning an essay with a tutee pays off. Since we had a plan, she was able to write the essay on her own.

  Date/Time: April 29, 4:30-5:30 Location: after school camp Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s grammar in her creative essay. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that 3rd graders don't understand most grammar rules by name, so it was important to explain in an easy to understand way.
