Date/Time: May 29, 8:00-9:00pm Location: Zoom meeting Feedback provided to tutee: We revisited the opinions and ideas vocabulary from last week's session to make sure the words had actually stuck. I ran my Korean tutee through the Situation Game and sentence starter exercises again, paying closer attention to whether she could form full opinions with reasons rather than just recognize the words. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that the second pass on a vocabulary set is where the real progress shows. The first time through she was matching words to definitions. The second time she was actually building her own opinions out loud with the new vocabulary attached.

Date/Time: May 22, 8:00-9:00pm Location: Zoom meeting Feedback provided to tutee: For my Korean tutee's lesson on opinions and ideas, I built a vocabulary set around eight words: agree, disagree, opinion, convince, suggest, prefer, reconsider, and reason. The lesson included a situation game with everyday scenarios where she had to choose the best response and then write her own opinion using the target words. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that low-intermediate students benefit more from situational practice. Giving her concrete scenarios like "your teacher says homework should be daily" let her form opinions in a way that felt natural instead of like a grammar exercise.

  Date/Time: May 14, 6:00-7:00pm Location: Zoom meeting Feedback provided to tutee: We circled back to the abstract vocabulary from our previous lesson to make sure the words were actually sticking. I had my tutee run through the worksheet exercises again and worked through a second round of speaking prompts to reinforce her usage of words like ambiguous, nuance, paradox, and inevitable. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that abstract vocabulary needs more than one session to truly stick. Coming back to the same set with fresh examples and new speaking prompts made the words feel familiar instead of overwhelming.

Date/Time: May 15, 8:00-9:00pm Location: Zoom meeting Feedback provided to tutee: I built my Korean tutee a vocabulary lesson around eight words about film, music, and creativity, which I found she is very interested in. The lesson was themed around her interest in K-pop and film, with sentence starters and speaking cards designed to get her using each word in conversation. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that tailoring vocabulary to a tutee's actual interests dramatically increased how much she engaged. 

Date/Time: May 22, 4:00-5:00pm Location: Zoom meeting Feedback provided to tutee:  For the session with my first tutee, we did a set of twenty abstract words like ambiguous, inherent, subtle, profound, paradox, and elusive. The exercises helped my tutee to choose the more precise wording, fix common usage errors, and use each word naturally in speaking responses on policy, identity, and ethics. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that abstract vocabulary requires a different kind of practice than concrete vocabulary, more explanation was required along with context.
