Topic/Skill: Listening; Current Events 

Teacher Presentation: Teacher introduced the lesson with a video news clip about a company developing flying cars. The clip was played a second time to allow students to take more detailed notes. 

Classroom Management: Students completed a worksheet individually before moving into peer group discussion. The teacher circulated during group work to engage students directly on the topic. 

Materials: News video clip, note-taking worksheet 

Student Participation: Students listened, took notes, and shared thoughts on the flying car development in class discussion. During peer group work, students conversed with each other and with the observer on the topic.

 Feedback Provided: Teacher facilitated open discussion after each listening segment, prompting students to comment and elaborate on their thoughts about the topic. 

Lesson on Teaching Learned: How current, technology-focused topics naturally generate student engagement and authentic conversation, making them effective vehicles for advanced listening and discussion activities.

I also made sure to give her mouth-position tips.   Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that Spanish speakers often cannot hear certain English vowel contrasts at first, since the sounds don't exist in their language. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that pre-planning an essay with a tutee pays off. Since we had a plan, she was able to write the essay on her own.

  Date/Time: April 29, 4:30-5:30 Location: after school camp Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s grammar in her creative essay. Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that 3rd graders don't understand most grammar rules by name, so it was important to explain in an easy to understand way.
