Topic/Skill: Grammar (Articles and Past Perfect Tenses)

Teacher Presentation: The teacher's presentation revolved around the reviewing of two activities on handouts, one of which was a study guide for a quiz on the following day.

Classroom Management: The teacher gave students time to think about all questions and answer them. He let the speed of responses dictate the speed in which he proceeded through topics in both of the handouts. The teacher always gave students time to correct one another before he corrected them himself.

Materials: 2 Handouts, Whiteboard, Dry Erase Markers

Student Participation: Students answered questions off a handout first by themselves and then in a verbal review of the content. Students were also posed verbal questions when problems or additional topics arose.

Feedback Provided: When a student made a mistake, he always gave a specific explanations on grammar rules were given. The teacher was very proactive at describing grammar terms or rules, even if they weren't the main topic of conversations (for example: superlatives, article specificity, and how long ago an event took place vs duration of an event).

Lessons on Teaching Learned: Be comfortable with silence. Understand that your students will need time to speak, and do not be too eager to provide explanations unless they are at a total loss. Have a good awareness of English grammar rules as no single grammar rule exists within most English grammar problems.
